"A classic reel with a revolutionary core"

Where can I buy a FELTY fly reel?
FELTY fly reels are available in Australia from a quality tackle store or Felty’s Flies stockist near you.  Alternatively, Contact Us and we will put you in touch with a stockist near you or arrange for samples to be sent to your local tackle store.

Are FELTY Fly reels large arbor?
FELTY Fly Reels have a good sized Diameter, particularly in the larger sizes where it counts, but do not have a false core as with classic large arbor reels.  FELTY reels are lightweight, permitting them to be filled with backing all the way to their skinny core rather than having a false core.

The large arbor debate really revolves around retrieval speeds and the loss of Outer Diameter when fighting a fish. There was a time when the loss of 150 yards of backing would leave a noticeable loss of line in a standard arbor reel, which resulted in manufacturers widening their spools to counteract the effect while having to hollow out the middle in order to reduce weight.

But these days with the development of fine diameter Gelspun backing materials like Bionic Braid, the equation has changed. Now the loss of 150 yards has a minimal effect on the Outer Diameter effectively making the extra width of the classic large arbor reel redundant. This would obviously not be the case for Billfish and other large Pelagics like big Tuna, but in the rod weights covered by Felty Fly Reels, being #3 to #11, we believe it is hard to justify carrying that extra bulk around for the sake of protecting your outer diameter when that 200 yard plus fish comes along.

Felty reels allow you to match up your rods with a lightweight, tough as nails reel with a good diameter and comfortable retrieval rate. They are designed to compliment the most sophisticated of rods providing a compact, well-balanced outfit that is a pleasure to use.

Remember, the large arbor debate is not about whether or not the reel has a false core, the issue is whether the reel has an adequate diameter to provide the retrieval rate you want.

Can I change my FELTY Reel to left hand wind?
FELTY Fly Reels can be changed to left hand wind with an alternative assembly orientation of just two components.  This is easily achieved and should take no more than sixty seconds to do.

How easy is it to maintain my FELTY reel?
FELTY reels are different to most other reels in that they have a hollow
spindle, but the reel requires very little maintenance and can be easily
maintained by following a few basic rules contained in the Maintenance
Instructions
supplied with each FELTY reel.

What type of lubrication is used for the internal components of the drag system?
The internals of the drag system are assembled with a fine coating of marine
grease (Castrol Marine Grease) for a superbly smooth drag. If the reel is
stripped and cleaned, for optimal performance it is recommended that you
replace the fine coating of marine grease to the teflon discs and springs
when reassembling.
